SPRING IS AROUND THE CORNER!

picture of an anchor  SPRING IS ALMOST HERE!

Only 42 more days till April 1st when we will launch the first boats at Kean's. This is our 79th year and we are proud to have served the Detroit, Grosse Pointe, and nearby communities for all those years. We are ready for the new season and the NEW KEAN'S!

This year we have added new amenities that are sure to give our residents and guests the type of harbor they love and deserve. The access through Club Kean to the private club lounge, the limo service to downtown, landscaped grounds, and the beautiful banquet facilities makes Kean's a unique destination. Whether you stay for a weekend or the year we will treat you to unparalleled service and friendliness.

The St. Clair Yacht Club will be open Monday, April 5th for the NCAA championship basketball game. All ILYA members and Club Kean members are invited to come open the bar and clubhouse for the 2010 season. Some game day food will be provided and drink specials will be announced that night. Those clubs with reciprocity have access to the SCYC Thursday through Sunday 3PM till closing during the boating season.

We are calling to schedule launches this year starting with the inside storage customers, next the boats in front of the buildings and so on throughout the yard.

We have been successful so far and we need to move the boats as quickly as possible so that we can maintain a full schedule and have room to move boats that need work. This is new but we will continue this program hopefully scheduling as far in advance as we are able. We have more boats scheduled for the first week of April than in the past two years and we want to continue that trend. By having a better plan rather than waiting for things to happen we can accomplish more. That way the facility and the harbor will be repaired, ready, and shined up for the season. Let's get the most out of a season that is already too short!

After many years of reoccurring problems created by people working on their boats and making a mess in the buildings we must explain the policy. No work of any kind that creates dust, residue, or the like can be performed in the buildings. This includes wheeling and waxing boats. This has gone on in the past but wheeling and waxing creates as much dust residue on other boats as does sanding. The buildings are for storage, not for work of that nature. We allow contractors to work on electronics, hydraulics, upholstery, and if need be, drill a few holes.

A move outside is included in the cost of storage and once set outside you are free to wheel, wax, sand, or paint. Still keeping in mind that any damage caused to boats around you will be charged to you.

Picture of the Dunk Tank used in the JK PicnicLast year our Chili Cook Off and Dunk Tank, along with the Hydroplane party raised enough money to send four children from the inner city to camp. Thank you all for participating and keep an eye out for this year's events. The VIP Hydroplane party will be $50 which includes a private porch, food and drinks all day.

Also, Kean's employees and management sent a sizeable donation to the Red Cross Haitian Relief effort. Every employee at Kean's donated. We are proud to have helped.
